Description
Kashmiri Pink Chai is a creamy, aromatic tea made with green tea, milk, cardamom, and a touch of baking soda for its signature rosy color. This traditional pink chai recipe is warm, comforting, lightly nutty, and perfect for cozy mornings, festive gatherings, or an afternoon tea break.
Ingredients
2 cups water
2 tablespoons Kashmiri tea leaves or green tea leaves
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
2 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
2 cups whole milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons sugar
1 tablespoon crushed pistachios
1 tablespoon crushed almonds
Instructions
1. Add the water, tea leaves, baking soda, and crushed cardamom pods to a saucepan over medium heat.
2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes until the tea reduces and deepens in color.
3. Add a small splash of cold water and stir vigorously or ladle the tea back and forth a few times to help develop the base color.
4. Strain the tea concentrate into another saucepan, discarding the leaves and cardamom pods.
5. Pour in the milk and place the pan over low to medium heat.
6. Stir in the salt and sugar, then continue heating gently until the tea turns a soft pink color and is hot all the way through.
7. Pour into cups and top with crushed pistachios and crushed almonds before serving.
Notes
This chai tastes best when simmered patiently, since the longer tea base helps create a deeper color and fuller flavor.
Use whole milk for the creamiest texture and the prettiest pink tone.
Adjust the salt and sugar to your taste, because some people prefer a more traditional savory finish while others enjoy it slightly sweeter.
