Description
Golden Fried Peach Pies are crispy, flaky hand pies filled with sweet cinnamon peaches and fried until perfectly golden, making them a classic peach dessert, Southern fried pie, and easy homemade hand pie recipe for any occasion.
Ingredients
2 cups peeled and diced peaches
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 refrigerated pie crusts
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
2 to 3 cups vegetable oil, for frying
2 tablespoons powdered sugar, optional for dusting
Instructions
1. Add the peaches, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract to a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring often, until the peaches soften and the mixture thickens.
2. Remove the filling from the heat and let it cool completely.
3. Unroll the pie crusts on a lightly floured surface and cut them into circles.
4. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water.
5. Spoon a small amount of cooled peach filling into the center of each dough circle.
6. Brush the edges with the egg mixture, fold the dough over, and press to seal. Crimp the edges with a fork.
7. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or heavy pot over medium heat until hot.
8. Fry the pies in batches for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crisp.
9. Transfer the fried pies to a paper towel lined plate.
10. Let them cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve warm.
Notes
Keep the filling cool before adding it to the dough so the crust stays easier to seal.
Do not overfill the pies or they may open while frying.
For the crispiest leftovers, reheat in the oven or air fryer instead of the microwave.
