Description

Traditional Meat Pie is the ultimate comfort food with rich ground beef, herbs, and vegetables wrapped in a flaky golden crust. This savory pie recipe is perfect for cozy dinners, holidays, and meal prep. A family favorite meat pie that freezes well and reheats beautifully.


Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 medium onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 tbsp all-purpose flour

1 cup beef broth

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

2 tbsp tomato paste

1 tsp dried thyme

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 egg, beaten (for brushing)

2 pie crusts (top and bottom)


Instructions

1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat.

2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onions are translucent.

3. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute to coat the meat.

4. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring.

5. Add Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, thyme, salt, and pepper.

6. Simmer the mixture for 10 minutes until thickened. Let it cool completely.

7. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

8. Line a pie pan with one crust, add the filling, and top with the second crust.

9. Crimp the edges and cut slits in the top crust.

10. Brush the top with the beaten egg.

11. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown.

12. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Let the filling cool before assembling the pie to avoid a soggy crust.

Make sure to crimp the edges tightly to prevent leaking.

Use a pie shield or foil if the crust edges brown too quickly.
