Description

Traditional Greek Horiatiki Salad is a classic Mediterranean dish made with ripe tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, red onion, Kalamata olives, creamy feta cheese, and olive oil. This Greek village salad is refreshing, easy to make, gluten-free, and perfect as a side or light main.

Ingredients

2 large tomatoes

1 cucumber

1/4 red onion

1/2 green bell pepper (optional)

1/2 cup Kalamata olives

100 grams feta cheese

1 teaspoon dried oregano

3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

1. Slice tomatoes into wedges or chunks.

2. Peel and slice the cucumber into half-moons.

3. Thinly slice the red onion and green bell pepper.

4. Combine all the vegetables in a large bowl.

5. Add Kalamata olives over the top.

6. Place a slab or chunks of feta cheese on top.

7. Sprinkle with dried oregano.

8. Drizzle with olive oil and a pinch of salt.

9. Gently toss before serving.

Notes

This salad is best served fresh or slightly chilled.

Use brined feta in a block for the most authentic flavor.

Let it sit 15 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.
