Description

These best homemade dinner rolls are soft, fluffy, and buttery, made with simple ingredients like flour, milk, and yeast. Perfect for holiday dinners, family meals, or freezing for later, these dinner rolls are easy to make and irresistibly delicious.

Ingredients

1 cup whole milk

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

1 large egg

4 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)

1 teaspoon salt

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for kneading)

2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

1. Warm the milk until it’s about 110°F. Stir in the sugar and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the milk mixture, egg, softened butter, and salt.

3. Gradually add in the flour until a soft dough forms.

4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.

5. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled.

6. Punch down the dough, divide into 15–18 pieces, and shape each into a ball.

7. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.

8. Preheat oven to 375°F. Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.

9. Brush the tops with melted butter while still warm. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Use a kitchen scale for consistent roll sizes.

Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free area for the best texture.

Brush with garlic butter for an extra flavor boost.
