Ingredients
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
1 ¼ cups warm water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (parsley, thyme, or rosemary)
4 tablespoons butter
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
¾ cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit until frothy.
2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Knead until a soft dough forms.
3. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
4. In a saucepan, melt butter and sauté garlic and herbs until fragrant. Cool slightly.
5. Roll out dough into a rectangle. Spread garlic herb butter, sprinkle cheeses evenly.
6. Roll up jelly-roll style, slice lengthwise, and twist the halves.
7. Place in greased pan, let rise 30 more minutes.
8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes until golden.
9. Cool slightly, then slice and serve warm.
Notes
Use freshly grated cheese for better melting and flavor.
Let butter mixture cool slightly before spreading to avoid soggy dough.
Twisting the dough with cut sides up ensures a beautiful cheesy swirl.
