Description
Southern Buttermilk Pie is a classic Southern dessert made with tangy buttermilk, sugar, butter, and eggs baked into a flaky pie crust. This old fashioned custard pie features a creamy texture, lightly crackled top, and rich buttery flavor. Perfect for holidays, Sunday dinners, or anytime you crave a traditional Southern pie recipe.
Ingredients
1 9 inch unbaked pie crust
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
3 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and place the pie crust into a 9 inch pie dish. Crimp edges as desired.
2. In a large bowl whisk together melted butter and sugar until smooth.
3. Add eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition.
4. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla extract until fully combined.
5. Whisk in flour and salt until smooth and lump free.
6. Pour filling into prepared pie crust.
7. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes until center is set but slightly jiggly.
8. Remove from oven and cool completely before slicing.
Notes
Use room temperature eggs for a smoother filling.
Do not overbake or the custard texture can become firm instead of creamy.
Allow pie to cool fully before slicing for clean cuts.
