Description
This Polish Cabbage Rolls Recipe (Golabki) is a comforting dinner classic featuring tender cabbage leaves stuffed with seasoned ground beef and rice, baked in tangy tomato sauce. Perfect for hearty family meals, easy meal prep, or freezing. Authentic Polish comfort food at its best.
Ingredients
1 large green cabbage
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup uncooked rice
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 large egg
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 cups tomato sauce
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp lemon juice or vinegar
Instructions
1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Core the cabbage and carefully peel off the leaves. Blanch each leaf for about 2 minutes until pliable. Drain and set aside to cool.
2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, uncooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until evenly blended.
3. Place a spoonful of filling onto each cabbage leaf. Fold in the sides and roll tightly like a burrito. Arrange rolls seam-side down in a baking dish.
4. In a bowl, combine tomato sauce with sugar and lemon juice or vinegar. Pour evenly over the cabbage rolls.
5. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour, until the rolls are cooked through and the sauce is bubbly.
Notes
Use Savoy cabbage if you prefer softer leaves.
Let the rolls rest 10 minutes before serving to absorb flavor.
Double the batch to freeze extra for quick future meals.
