Ingredients

1 cup butter

1 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons corn syrup

1 loaf French bread or brioche, sliced thick

5 large eggs

1 1/2 cups half-and-half

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt


Instructions

1. In a saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup until smooth and bubbly. Pour into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Slice the bread and layer it over the caramel base in the dish. Slightly overlap for a snug fit.

3. Whisk together eggs, half-and-half, vanilla, and salt in a large bowl.

4. Pour the custard over the bread, pressing slightly to soak. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
