Ingredients
1 cup warm milk
2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
½ teaspoon salt
3½ cups all-purpose flour
Vegetable oil, for frying
2 cups powdered sugar
¼ cup real maple syrup
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for glaze)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. In a small bowl, mix warm milk with 1 teaspoon of sugar, then stir in the yeast. Let sit until foamy, about 5–10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter. Mix to form a dough, then knead until smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.
3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
4. Punch down the dough and roll out to ½ inch thick. Cut with donut cutter and place on parchment-lined tray. Cover and let rise 30 minutes.
5. Heat oil to 350°F and fry donuts in batches, 1–2 minutes per side, until golden. Drain on rack with paper towels.
6. Whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, melted butter, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Dip warm donuts into glaze and let set.
Notes
Use real maple syrup for the best flavor.
Fry in small batches to maintain oil temperature.
Donuts taste best fresh but can be rewarmed in the microwave.
