Ingredients
1 4 to 5 lb beef brisket
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp black pepper
1 tbsp smoked paprika
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
2 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp olive oil
3 tbsp tomato paste
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp molasses
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp liquid smoke
2 tbsp honey
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 1/2 cups beef broth
Instructions
1. Mix salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and brown sugar in a small bowl. Rub over the brisket and let sit for 30 minutes or refrigerate overnight.
2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high. Sear brisket on all sides until golden.
3. In a saucepan, combine tomato paste, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, molasses, mustard, honey, liquid smoke, and cayenne. Simmer for 15–20 minutes.
4. Place seared brisket in roasting pan, pour in beef broth, and spoon barbecue sauce on top. Cover with foil and roast at 300°F for 4–5 hours.
5. Rest brisket for 20 minutes, slice against the grain, and serve with extra sauce.
Notes
Letting the brisket rest is crucial for juicy slices.
Refrigerating the rub overnight deepens the flavor.
Use the leftover sauce for sandwiches or as a dip.
