Ingredients
4 medium sweet potatoes
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup water
Instructions
1. Peel the sweet potatoes and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
2. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
3. Arrange sweet potato slices in a baking dish, slightly overlapping each other.
4. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, salt, and water.
5. Simmer the sauce for 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.
6. Pour the sauce evenly over the sweet potatoes.
7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
8. Remove foil and bake for another 20–25 minutes, basting once halfway through.
9. Allow the dish to sit for a few minutes before serving so the syrup can thicken.
10. Serve warm with extra syrup spooned over the top.
Notes
Make sure slices are uniform so they cook evenly.
Don’t skip basting — it deepens the flavor and glaze.
You can add a pinch of cayenne or orange zest for a fun twist.
