Description

This homemade flour tortilla recipe delivers soft, chewy, and perfectly pliable tortillas made with pantry staples. Whether for tacos, burritos, or wraps, these easy tortillas are a must-try for any home cook. Ideal for Mexican recipes, freezer meals, and quick weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons vegetable oil or lard

3/4 cup warm water

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.

2. Add the oil or lard and work it into the flour until crumbly.

3. Slowly add warm water, mixing until a soft dough forms.

4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth.

5. Cover the dough and let it rest for 20–30 minutes.

6. Divide the dough into 8 to 10 pieces and roll each into a ball.

7. Roll out each ball into a thin round.

8. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.

9. Cook each tortilla for 30–60 seconds per side until golden spots form.

10. Keep warm in a towel until ready to serve.

Notes

These tortillas freeze beautifully; separate them with parchment paper before freezing.

You can substitute lard for oil if you prefer a richer flavor.

Avoid overcooking to maintain a soft and pliable texture.
