These Homemade Crispy Onion Rings are golden, crunchy, and made from scratch with simple ingredients. Perfect as a snack, appetizer, or side, this onion rings recipe delivers restaurant-quality flavor with an ultra-crispy texture. Includes tips, storage, and serving ideas for your next game day or family meal.

Ingredients

1 large sweet onion

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup cornstarch

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 large egg

1 cup milk

Oil for frying

Instructions

1. Peel and slice the onion into 1/2 inch thick rings, separating them gently.

2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, paprika, and black pepper.

3. In another bowl, whisk together egg and milk until smooth.

4. Combine the wet and dry mixtures into a thick batter.

5. Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).

6. Dip each onion ring in the batter, let excess drip off, and carefully lower into the oil.

7. Fry in batches, turning once, until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes per side).

8. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Use sweet onions like Vidalia for best flavor and texture.

Don’t overcrowd the pot while frying to keep the oil temperature steady.

Reheat leftovers in the air fryer or oven for maximum crispiness.
