Description

This gluten-free caramel apple tart is the perfect fall dessert made with an almond flour crust, tender spiced apples, and homemade caramel sauce. It’s a cozy, crowd-pleasing treat that’s naturally grain-free and bursting with warm autumn flavor. Great for entertaining or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

1 ½ cups almond flour

4 tablespoons melted butter

2 tablespoons maple syrup

1 large egg

3 medium apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp preferred)

1 teaspoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons brown sugar (for apples)

2 tablespoons butter (for apples)

½ cup brown sugar (for caramel)

2 tablespoons butter (for caramel)

¼ cup heavy cream

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a tart pan.

2. In a bowl, mix almond flour, melted butter, maple syrup, and egg until dough forms. Press into tart pan and bake 10–12 minutes until golden. Let cool.

3. For the caramel, heat brown sugar and butter in a saucepan until bubbly. Stir in cream and simmer until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

4. Peel and thinly slice apples. Sauté in butter with cinnamon and brown sugar until just tender. Set aside.

5. Layer apples over baked crust. Drizzle half of the caramel over apples.

6. Bake assembled tart at 350°F for 10 minutes to blend flavors.

7. Let cool slightly, drizzle with remaining caramel, slice, and serve warm or room temperature.

Notes

This tart is best with a mix of tart and sweet apples.

You can use coconut cream instead of heavy cream for a dairy-free caramel.

Let the tart cool slightly before slicing to keep it intact.
