Ingredients
1 cup warm milk
2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
¼ cup unsalted butter (softened)
2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
1. Warm the milk until it’s just body temperature. Stir in the sugar and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, softened butter, and beaten egg. Stir to form a dough.
3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
4. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled.
5. Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each into a ball.
6. Arrange the balls in a buttered baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30–40 minutes until puffy and touching.
7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush rolls with melted butter.
8. Bake for 18–22 minutes, until golden. Serve warm.
Notes
These rolls freeze well—wrap tightly and reheat in the oven.
For a richer flavor, use whole milk.
Brushing with garlic butter adds an extra layer of flavor.
