Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
2 large yellow onions, sliced thin
8 slices rye bread
8 slices Swiss cheese
4 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Slice onions thinly and cook in a skillet with butter over medium-low heat for 20-25 minutes until caramelized.
2. Shape the ground beef into 4 oval patties, roughly the size of the bread slices. Season with salt and pepper.
3. In a skillet, cook patties over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes per side until fully cooked.
4. Assemble the sandwiches: layer cheese, patty, onions, another slice of cheese, and top with bread.
5. In a clean skillet, melt butter and grill each sandwich for 3-4 minutes per side until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.
6. Serve hot and enjoy!
