Description

This decadent caramel cake recipe features moist layers of buttery cake smothered in rich homemade caramel frosting. Perfect for holidays, birthdays, or any sweet occasion. A rich caramel cake dessert you’ll make again and again.

Ingredients

2½ cups all-purpose flour

2 cups granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup whole milk

4 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1½ cups brown sugar

¾ cup heavy cream

½ cup unsalted butter (for caramel frosting)

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

4. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.

5. Alternate adding flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with flour. Mix until smooth.

6. Divide the batter evenly into pans and bake for 25–30 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.

7. In a saucepan, melt ½ cup butter and stir in brown sugar. Cook for 2 minutes, then whisk in heavy cream.

8. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 3–5 minutes until thickened. Stir in vanilla and let cool slightly.

9. Frost the first cake layer with caramel, then top with the second layer. Pour remaining caramel over the top. Let set.

Notes

Use homemade caramel for the richest flavor.

Let the cake sit overnight for deeper caramel flavor infusion.

Slice with a hot knife for clean, even cuts.
