Description
Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast is a nostalgic breakfast classic made with dried beef in a creamy white sauce over toast. This easy comfort food recipe is quick, budget-friendly, and perfect for cozy mornings. Includes variations, serving tips, and storage advice.
Ingredients
4 oz dried beef
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk
1/2 tsp black pepper (adjust to taste)
4 slices bread (toasted)
Instructions
1. Slice the dried beef into small pieces. If very salty, rinse briefly under cold water and pat dry.
2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
3. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it forms a smooth roux.
4. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking, allowing the sauce to thicken, about 3-5 minutes.
5. Stir in the dried beef and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes. Add black pepper to taste.
6. Toast your bread slices and ladle the creamed beef mixture on top. Serve hot.
Notes
Use low-sodium dried beef if possible to control saltiness.
For a thicker sauce, increase flour by 1/2 tablespoon.
Leftovers reheat well with a splash of milk to loosen the sauce.
