Ingredients
9 lasagna noodles
1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound Italian sausage
1 small onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
28 ounces crushed tomatoes
2 tablespoons tomato paste
15 ounces ricotta cheese
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 large egg
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil or 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Brown ground beef and sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, cook until softened.
2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil or seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 25 minutes.
3. Cook lasagna noodles until al dente, drain, and lay flat to prevent sticking.
4. Mix ricotta, egg, and 1/4 cup Parmesan in a bowl until creamy.
5. Preheat oven to 375°F. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
6. Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, mozzarella. Repeat layers and top with mozzarella and remaining Parmesan.
7. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
8. Let rest for 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
Let the lasagna rest after baking for cleaner slices.
Use freshly grated cheeses for the best melt and flavor.
