Ingredients
1 sheet puff pastry
1/2 lb ground sausage
4 oz cream cheese
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
Instructions
1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground sausage until browned. Drain any excess fat and let it cool slightly.
2. In a bowl, mix the cooked sausage with cream cheese and shredded cheddar until well combined.
3. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface. Spread the sausage mixture evenly to the edges.
4. Roll the pastry tightly into a log and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill for 20–30 minutes.
5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the chilled roll into 1/2-inch pinwheels.
6. Place slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush tops with egg yolk.
7. Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden and puffed. Sprinkle with parsley if desired.
8. Serve warm or let cool before storing.
Notes
These pinwheels can be frozen before baking for a fast future appetizer.
Use all-butter puff pastry for the best flavor and flake.
