Ingredients
2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes
2 cups heavy cream
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 ½ cups shredded Gruyère cheese
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes to about 1/8 inch thick, keeping slices uniform.
2. In a saucepan, simmer heavy cream with minced garlic, salt, and pepper for 5 minutes to infuse the flavor.
3. Butter a baking dish. Layer potatoes and sprinkle with Gruyère and Parmesan between layers. Pour over the garlic cream.
4. Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 45 minutes. Remove foil, top with more cheese, and bake for another 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
5. Let the gratin rest for 10 minutes before serving for easier slicing.
Notes
This gratin can be prepped a day in advance and baked fresh.
For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or fresh thyme to the cream.
Gruyère can be swapped with cheddar for a more familiar flavor.
