Ingredients
1 cup whole milk
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp chai spice blend
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp chai spice blend (for glaze)
Instructions
1. Warm the milk until just warm to the touch. Stir in granulated sugar and yeast. Let sit 5 to 10 minutes until frothy.
2. In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and softened butter. Mix into a soft dough.
3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl and let rise until doubled.
4. In another bowl, mix brown sugar, chai spice blend, and softened butter for the filling.
5. Roll dough into a rectangle. Spread filling mixture evenly. Roll tightly and slice into rolls.
6. Place rolls in a greased pan. Cover and let rise again until puffy.
7. Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes until golden and cooked through.
8. Whisk cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and chai spice. Drizzle over warm rolls.
Notes
Warm the milk—not hot—to properly activate yeast.
You can prep the rolls a day ahead and bake fresh in the morning.
Feel free to adjust the chai spice ratio to your personal taste.
