Description

This blackberry cobbler recipe is a classic Southern-style dessert made with juicy blackberries and a buttery golden crust. Perfect for summer gatherings, it’s easy to make with fresh or frozen berries and pantry staples. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for the ultimate comfort treat.

Ingredients

2 cups blackberries

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup milk

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the butter in a 9×13 baking dish and let it melt while the oven preheats.

2. In a bowl, combine the blackberries, 1/4 cup sugar, and lemon juice. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, remaining sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add in the milk and vanilla and stir until just combined.

4. Once the butter is melted, remove the dish from the oven. Pour the batter over the butter without stirring.

5. Spoon the blackberry mixture over the batter evenly. Do not mix.

6. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbling.

7. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Use fresh or frozen blackberries—no need to thaw frozen ones.

Don’t stir the batter once it’s poured over the butter; it needs to float and bake up golden.

Add a bit of lemon zest for a fresh twist on the berry flavor.
