Description
This Authentic Swedish Cardamom Cake recipe brings traditional Scandinavian fika flavor to your kitchen. Made with freshly ground cardamom, this moist and buttery cake is perfect for coffee breaks, brunch, or dessert. It’s a simple, aromatic, and cozy treat you’ll want to bake again and again.
Ingredients
170g unsalted butter
200g granulated sugar
2 large eggs
240g all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup whole milk
2 tsp freshly ground cardamom
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round or bundt pan. Lightly flour it to avoid sticking.
2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy.
3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Mix in the vanilla extract.
4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and freshly ground cardamom.
5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
6. Pour the batter into your prepared pan and smooth the top.
7. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
8. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
9. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze if desired before serving.
Notes
This cake keeps well and is even more flavorful the next day.
Use freshly ground cardamom pods for the most aromatic result.
Avoid overmixing to maintain a soft, tender crumb.
