Description
This hearty American Goulash recipe is the ultimate one-pot comfort food, blending ground beef, elbow macaroni, and a savory tomato sauce for a quick and easy dinner. Perfect for weeknights, budget-friendly, and family-approved.
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
2 cups elbow macaroni
1 medium onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 bay leaf (optional)
Instructions
1. Heat a large pot over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
2. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, then stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
3. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and bay leaf.
4. Bring to a simmer and cook uncovered for 5 to 7 minutes to develop flavor.
5. Add elbow macaroni and stir well. Cover and reduce heat to medium-low. Cook for 12 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
6. Once pasta is tender and sauce is slightly thickened, remove from heat and discard bay leaf.
7. Let sit uncovered for 5 minutes before serving. Optionally garnish with parsley or shredded cheese.
Notes
Let the dish rest after cooking for better flavor and consistency.
Add a splash of broth or water when reheating to loosen the pasta.
Customize with chopped bell peppers or mushrooms for extra veggies.
